For this month’s Military Family Spotlight, I am honored to share the story of Tina, Cody, and their golden retriever, Archie. Their journey is one that reflects so many aspects of military life: adapting to change, building community, navigating distance, and finding strength in one another through both the exciting and difficult seasons.

Cody joined the U.S. Army in 2017 and then was sent to Grafenwoehr, Germany for one of his first assignments. Tina and Cody met in 2021, shortly after Cody arrived in Germany. Meeting so early in his time overseas created a unique opportunity for Tina to share her culture and introduce him to life in Germany from the start, where they could grow and learn about each others lives together. What started as a connection between two people from different countries became a partnership built around learning from each other and embracing new experiences together.

Being a German citizen married to a U.S. soldier has brought its own set of challenges.
Like many military families, Tina and Cody have had to navigate long trainings, extended periods apart, and the uncertainty that often comes with Army life. Despite those challenges, they have continued to support each other and find ways to make each new chapter work.
Community has always been an important part of their military journey. While Cody was assigned to 2nd Cavalry Regiment, Tina became involved with the Soldier and Family Readiness Group (SFRG), working alongside other spouses to support soldiers and families through fundraisers and events.

After Cody moved to the 15th EN, Tina and Cody wanted to help create that same sense of connection and support for others. Tina completed the SFRG leader course, and together they have worked to help fellow military families feel welcomed, included, and connected.
Outside of the military community, Tina also works for the German government and is fortunate to have flexibility in her position, something that has been especially valuable while navigating the last-minute changes that are often part of military life.
Tina and Cody were married in 2023, but their first years of marriage also brought some of life’s hardest moments. Cody experienced the loss of his father while stationed away from his family, and Tina lost her grandmother the day before their wedding. Through those experiences, they learned the importance of leaning on each other and facing difficult moments together.
Today, they are looking ahead to their next chapter, whether that includes a PCS, Airborne opportunities, or continuing through the green card process. While there are still many unknowns ahead, they continue to approach each season as a team.

And of course, no story about Tina and Cody would be complete without Archie.
Their golden retriever is a constant source of happiness and has become an important part of their family’s adventures.
Whether traveling, exploring new places, or simply enjoying everyday moments together, Archie brings a little extra joy wherever he goes.
Tina and Cody’s story is a reminder that military families come in many different forms. Their experiences highlight the importance of community, adaptability, and the people who make each place feel like home.
Thank you, Tina and Cody, for sharing your story and allowing me to highlight your journey as part of the Military Family Spotlight.
