Military Family Spotlight: Ricky & Brenda

For this month’s Military Family Spotlight, I am honored to feature Brenda and CPT Ricky Niino.

Ricky serves as an engineer officer in the U.S. Army, but this month’s spotlight is especially focused on Brenda and the impact she has made within the military community through her work as an educator.

Brenda began a new school year this month as a first grade teacher at Vilseck Elementary School. For her, teaching is more than a profession. It is another way she has found to serve the families and communities around her.

Before coming to Germany, Brenda taught at Fort Benning, where she became involved in supporting the military community there. Since arriving in the Grafenwöhr and Vilseck area, she has continued that commitment through her work with military-connected children and families.

Being a military-connected educator comes with a unique perspective. Brenda understands that the children in her classroom may be adjusting to a new home, a new school, or another transition because of their parents' service. She knows that behind each student is a family navigating the realities of military life, and she has made it a priority to help create a place where those children can feel supported, welcomed, and cared for.

Her dedication extends beyond the classroom. Brenda has continually found ways to give her time and energy to the people around her, becoming someone others can rely on within the community. Her nomination for this spotlight is a reflection of the difference she has made through those everyday acts of service.

As a first grade teacher, Brenda is also helping shape the next generation. Every school day gives her the opportunity to make an impression on a child, encourage their curiosity, and help them build confidence during an important stage of their lives. For military families in particular, having a familiar and supportive teacher can make an enormous difference.

Together, Brenda and CPT Niino represent one of the many ways military families contribute to the communities around them. Ricky serves through his work in the Army, while Brenda continues to serve through education and her commitment to the families and children she encounters along the way.

As Brenda begins another school year at Vilseck Elementary, I am grateful to be able to recognize the work she has already done and the many students and families she will continue to impact.
