Military Family Spotlight: The Sasine Family

“He’s the bomb!”

That was the first line of MAJ Sasine’s nomination for this month’s Military Family Spotlight. It may not be the most traditional nomination, but the rest of the message made it pretty clear why he was chosen.

Described as one of the most professional, positive, and genuinely upbeat people you could meet, MAJ Sasine has built a career around serving others. A former Air Force officer, he now serves with the U.S. Army and has participated in humanitarian missions in Africa. He has also made volunteering and giving back to others an important part of his life outside of his military career.

His commitment to service is something that extends beyond his uniform and into his family life. Together, the Sasine family has embraced a life filled with adventure, travel, and new experiences.

For much of the past 18 years, their home was Hawaii. After spending so much time surrounded by beaches and water, it is no surprise that those remain some of their favorite places to spend time together. Their move to Europe brought an entirely different kind of adventure, and they have made the most of their time here, particularly whenever the sun makes an appearance.

With a growing family, flexibility has also become an important part of their lifestyle. Their children are homeschooled, allowing the family more freedom to travel and explore together. It is a way of life that has given them the opportunity to experience the places they have called home rather than simply passing through them.

Their time in Germany is not quite over yet, but they are already looking toward their next chapter. After one more year in Germany and with the Army, the family plans to move to Colorado Springs. There, Michael will begin building an oral surgery practice for their family.

From nearly two decades in Hawaii to their European adventure and now the next chapter in Colorado, the Sasine family has embraced the uncertainty and opportunity that comes with a military life. Their story is one of service, family, and making the most of each place and season along the way.
